School Focus

Glenwood Elementary School is the only elementary school in Erie with an environmental focus.
It has a small, undeveloped area at the rear of the school which is used as a teaching area for the students. It is often thought that field trips away from the school are the only means of exposing children to nature. However, research has shown that the most effective way is through nature center areas on the school grounds. This offers a "hands on" approach to the students' environmental awareness.
In addition to the wooded area, the children also help care for the school grounds by gardening, picking up litter and feeding the birds.
