Academics



PSAT/SAT.

This is offered to 7th and 8th grade students at Jefferson . Students are given the opportunity to take the PSAT test, a test usually taken in 10th grade. Practice sessions are given by Mr. Flaherty and Mr. Clement to help prepare for the test. Students who perform well on the PSAT take the SAT later in the school year.


PJAS

PJAS has the following objectives:

*To promote greater participation in scientific activities among the youth of Pennsylvania.

*To provide opportunities for the development of students as thinking people.

*To improve the quality of achievement in the sciences through encouraging students to participate in scientific research and to develop original ideas.

*To develop an understanding of the operation of the scientific community through close association with leaders in the scientific disciplines.

*To seek the improvement of science club activities through the cooperative regional and state meeting and to increase the opportunities of getting better acquainted with members of the other science clubs.

*To seek to inculcate among members true scientific attitudes and humanistic ideals that shall lead each to the greater development of services to humankind through the field of science.

 



ASL                           Pentathlon-2008

 The ASL Pentathlon is an academic competition offered to 8th graders at Jefferson . It is a competition against other schools from around the state. Students study all year in the areas of math, science, and social studies. They are quizzed in these areas and also compete in a Super Quiz contest. Last year, Jefferson took 1st place in the Super Quiz competition and 3rd overall in the Pentathlon.
