2nd Grade's Lemonade Stand
On Thursday, November 29 and Friday, November 30, the second grade at Perry School held a lemonade stand to benefit the Times Old Newsies. This was done in connection with our reading story Lemonade For Sale in our anthology. Just like the children in the story, they sold lemonade for 25 cents a cup; they made hats and sent out invitations. The entire student body, members of the administration, and school board bought cups of lemonade. They raised a total of $345 - almost twice the amount of last year $175. They counted and wrapped the money to reinforce their math skills.
Prior to this activity, John Kossbiel and members of the Times Old Newsies came, read The Giving Tree, and talked to the second grade about the importance of giving back to the community. These students are also helping out St. Vincent's Pediatric unit by making candy cups and decorations for those in the hospital at the holidays. They will be caroling there over Christmas.
We are very proud of the second grade students!!!
