First Grade Visits Presbyterian Home on March 2, 2009
The first grade has been partnering with the Presbyterian
Home for the elderly for a number of years now.
The purpose of the partnership is for the students to understand the
needs of the elderly and grow in their respect toward them.
The students sing songs and recite poems for the residents. They also learn to interact with them. The students and residents enjoy getting to know one another on a personal basis. Sometimes when the students are finished singing, this prompts the residents to teach the students a song from their generation. When finished, we all enjoy a snack together.
As we learn and practice our songs, students learn the value of putting forth effort to bring happiness to others and working together as a team. We hope that as a result of our efforts, the students will grow up with a greater respect for their elders.
