7th Grade at Perry Elementary School
| The
seventh grade is an exciting addition to Perry Elementary
School and the students and teachers are happy to be a
part of this new experience. New frontiers are opening
such as science experiments, research papers, oral
histories and maps. PreAlgebra, Life Science, Literature
and Social Studies are taught with a special middle
school twist guiding the students toward the ultimate
goal of high school and beyond. More long range projects
and greater amounts of homework are parts of the theme
that will produce more responsible and goal-oriented
students. Our present seventh grade seems to be up to the
task. Each student should be keeping a homework notebook
daily with the different assignments listed. There are other new additions to 7th grade, such as, a once a week health class taught by Ms. Sitek and our Art teacher, Mrs. Knecht, teaches them an art class twice a week. Along with this, they have access to technology in their library class and two computer classes each week. Add gym and music to this mixture and the seventh grade has a very complete schedule guaranteed to expose them to a variety of experiences. All of the students will be completing an independent science project based on the steps of the scientific method through the PJAS (Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science) program. Some students will be going on to compete at Behrend in February. Reading is a big part of the middle scholar's life. They are reading independently in Language Arts class and discovering new authors and poets together as a group. If they make it around Ms. Chevalier's room with their book titles they will be rewarded with a pizza party. Our service project this year is the Armed Forces. We will be writing our first letters to overseas servicemen and women in the coming weeks. Along with all of the hard work in the classroom, these students are also involved in after school activities like GAPS, Lego League and Learn and Serve. With all of these activities they are making a big contribution to the school. |
