6th Grade Community Service Project
The 6th grade chose to participate in their community service project and fundraiser the week of May 7-11, "Be Kind to Animals Week." Their community service project benefited the Erie Humane Society. The students made posters advertising their fundraiser and the need for donations. Perry students, teachers, and staff were urged to donate blankets, towels, pet toys, and tennis balls for the animals awaiting adoption at the Humane Society. Each person that brought in a donation received their name on a paper "milkbone" that was displayed in the cafeteria around the words "Milkbones for Molly," the name given to the project because Mrs. Farnham adopted her basset hound from the Humane Society. The 6th graders also sold popcorn and pretzels at lunches with proceeds going to them, too. Molly the basset hound visited Perry one day and all of the students were able to meet her. As a result, over 200 items were collected for the Humane Society and in addition, a sizable cash donation was made to them as well. The sixth grade students had a fun time planning and implementing their community service project and at the same time, learned that all animals have the right to a happy and comfortable life.
