The purpose of the Building Educational Support Team
(BEST -formerly known as SAP) is to help address barriers to learning so
students can become more successful in school. Students may be referred
to this program by parents, teachers, friends, administrators or themselves.
A team of school staff members who have been trained to work with students
and parents meet weekly to review referrals and join together with the
parents to develop intervention plans based on individual student's strengths
and needs. When problems extend beyond the scope of the school, referrals
are made to the Behavioral Health Specialist for assessment and/or referral
to community services. This program is voluntary, confidential and free
of charge. Parental permission is required for student participation. This
program is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which
gives parents and students specific rights regarding confidentiality and
access to student records and may be obtained from the building principal.

The Intensive Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Program (IJDPP) provides
preventative services to help at-risk youth stay out of placement
and/or contact with the juvenile justice system. The collaborating departments/organizations
for this project include:The Office of Children and Youth Services, The
Erie Country Juvenile Probation Department, the Department of Human Services,
Erie School District, Sarah Reed Children's Center and Perseus House, inc.
The goals of this program are as follows:
1. Improved attendance, participation
and academics in school
2. Improved communication within
the family setting
3. Development of pro-social skills
to function properly in society
This program is designed to provide many services to clients throughout
the week. A case manager is assigned to track each client, to insure compliance
with the Individual Treatment Plan. The case manager is responsible for
providing ongoing coordination of all required and/or recommended services
at home, in school, and in the community. Interventions include individual
and group counseling, education and remediation opportunities, involvement
in individual, family, and group therapy. Parenting workshops and parent/child
trainings are also provided to improve family communication
