The purpose of the Building Educational Support Team (BEST -formerly known as SAP) is to help address barriers to learning so students can become more successful in school. Students may be referred to this program by parents, teachers, friends, administrators or themselves. A team of school staff members who have been trained to work with students and parents meet weekly to review referrals and join together with the parents to develop intervention plans based on individual student's strengths and needs. When problems extend beyond the scope of the school, referrals are made to the Behavioral Health Specialist for assessment and/or referral to community services. This program is voluntary, confidential and free of charge. Parental permission is required for student participation. This program is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which gives parents and students specific rights regarding confidentiality and access to student records and may be obtained from the building principal.
