President's Club

The President's Club members make many important contributions to the school and community. Throughout the year, the Club is working on various service projects such as: school recycling, assisting residents at St. Mary's Bingo, December food drive, Bowling for Hometown Charities, Walk America, clothing drive for the Caring Closet, spring clean-up of Polito Field, and fund raising for new library books.

Journalism

Site Manager: Mrs. Locke
Students respond, through writing, using articles and prompts from  Newspaper In Education, specifically Discover Our Times and Fresh Ink.  The students also write articles for the school newsletter and will be producing the morning announcements via video.  The goal is to improve writing using journalistic formats, improve oral speaking and to get their opinions published in the newspaper.

 

Yearbook

Site Manager: Mrs. Locke
Students learn the entire process of publishing a yearbook from scratch online.  Being able to work cooperatively, independently, and lead are qualities and skills that are required.

 

SMASH

Site Manager: Mr. Mifsud
The Saturday SMASH program has met for the last 10 weeks and played various type of sports like soccer, basketball, and dodgeball. The group has a regular 25-30 students who participate in Reading Tutoring the last hour of the morning. Student use many reading strategies to help with comprehension, vocabulary, and the writing process.

The following teachers participate in the tutoring program: Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Rinderle, Mrs. Tyes, Ms. Glass, Ms. Shamburg, Ms. Simmons, Mrs. Fowler, and Ms. Carey. The program runs from 10AM-12PM on Saturdays.
