Wilson Students Make History Again!

Wilson has two School Poets!

Congratulations to Mariah Loesel and Abby Sweet!

The girls entered the 2009 Poetry Search: A Winning Way with Words. Both girls deserved to win, so they share the honor of School Poet.

Congratulations to their teachers: Mrs. Levinson and Ms. del Cid.

"Sand Between My Toes"

The sands between my toes
Salty air is on my tongue
The coastline gets muddier and more dense
With every step I take
I’m thinking this sand has been all over the world
Transported by this water that’s crashing on the shores
As the sand grains travel in the water
This beach must have been built up over time
By this sand that’s under my feet
I think this sand is thinking
About all those smelly, crusty feet
Trampling all around
With no interest, just complaints about its heat
For where the sand came from
Or what it really is
Minuscule particles of rock
Gradually adding and declining
Over the years
To beaches everywhere
The grains are bobbing along on the surface
The waters calm as slow deep breathing
As I set out to sea
I dip my feet in the water ever so gratefully
Since they’re hot as fire
They cool down gratefully
As the sand between my toes washed away
It might just be grateful

"Bay Front "

The golden banks,
Of the shore
Against the bold red sky,
The house a float,
With the boat
Bobbing on waves of blue.

The dragonflies
Scrape the surface
Mocking little fish,
Mosquitoes come to
Join the dance
Making little clouds.

The sky goes dark and sleeps,
The sun lays on waves,
The house’s gentle bobbing
Rocks me to sleep.

When morning comes around
The waves will be gold,
The house will be bobbin’
Gentle and true,
The distant sound
Of waves crashing on shore
Calming creatures at bay

Little deer come to graze
Tiny bunnies come to watch
Little lizards coming to bask
In the morning rays.

Fish are jumping,
Catching the dragonflies
That taunted the night before
The mosquitoes come to bite,
But I don’t really care,
‘cause I am captive by the scenery
And I shall for ever more.
