• The Building Educational Support Team or B.E.S.T. is a program that consists of a team that works together to come up with an academic and/or a behavioral plan for the referring teacher and the student.

B.E.S.T. referrals are completed by any teacher who has a concern about a student.  By the time a teacher is ready to make this referral, the teacher should have had discussions with the parent about the student's lack of progress academically and/or behaviorally.

Referrals are reviewed by the team, which consists of an administrator, the school counselor, the school psychologist, the school nurse, the school wide specialist, and the referring teacher.  Interventions are recommended and a plan is suggested for the teacher to follow.  A review of intervention plan will happen at the six week mark (or sooner if needed) and a determination will be made at this time based on the progress of the student.  What will be determined depends on what the child's needs are.  Some examples include: stay with the suggested academic and/or behavioral interventions, modify the suggested interventions, a referrral for evaluation, or a referral for SAP or other community services.

B.E.S.T. meetings at Grover Cleveland are scheduled when it is most convienent for the team to meet.  This flexible schedule allows for more meetings to occur during the week rather than a fixed day and time schedule.  During the month of October is when we typically start to see referrals submitted by the teachers.

B.E.S.T. referrals can be made by teachers during remote instruction.  The team will strategize the best possible way to implement interventions during this type of instruction.
