    Next week we will be changing our instruction to Google Classroom.  I will be sending more information at the end of this week to explain how to login.

    Math: Continue with District provided math packets and iReady online learning.

    Language Arts: Continue with online Amplify Reading

    Saltwater Habitats: Books have been sent through Epic Reading to help us learn about our final habitat. Please read and discuss these books with your child. 

    Activities to Enhance Our Learning: 

    You will learn there are plants and animals living in the deep open water far from land and some in shallow(not deep) waters close to shore. 

    Draw and label a picture of  plant and animal that lives in the deep open waters.

    Draw and label a picture that includes a plant and animal that lives in the shallow waters.

    Write two interesting facts you learned about the saltwater habitat. 

    We have learned about 7 different habitats. Which one was your favorite?  Draw a picture of your favorite habitat and write why it is your favorite. 

    I am very proud of your learning and growing during your time at home!

    Freshwater Habitat  Books have been sent through Epic Reading to help us learn about our next habitat. Please read and discuss these books with your child.

    Activities to Enhance our Learning:

    Draw and label a freshwater habitat. 

    Draw and label two of your favorite animals that live in a freshwater habitat. (include at least 3 labels) Write two facts you learned about each animal.

    The Tropical Rainforest  Books and videos have been sent through Epic Reading to help us learn about our next habitat. Please read and discuss these books with your child.

    Activities to Enhance our Learning:

    Locate  the continent South America. Then search for pictures of the Amazon Rainforest.

    Draw and label the 3 layers of the rainforest

    Draw 2 animals that live in the rainforest and write two interesting facts you learned about each animal.

    Draw 2 plants that grow in the rainforest. Write 2 things you learned about each plant. 

    Vocabulary to be familiar with:

    Equator  an imaginary line around the center of the earth. The land and water near the equator stay very warm year round.

    Tropical Rainforest: a forest that is located near the equator where it stays warm and wet all year.

    Canopy: top layer of the forest formed by the brances and leaves at the tops of trees.

    Understory: Middle layer of the rainforest

    Forest floor: bottom layer of the rainforest

  • Hi First Graders and Parents,

    I am asking families to use EPIC Reading site to continue learning about Habitats.  I have sent you books through the site that will help your child learn about each new habitat. If you have found another site that is helpful please feel free to use it. 

    So far we have learned about the Sonoran Desert and East Aftrican Savanna Habitat. This week we will begin Learning about The Temperate Deciduous Forest. 

    Vocabulary

    Temperate forests: A temperate forest grows in an area that has four seasons, including a warm summer and a cold winter.

    Deciduous forest: Tress, bushes, and shrubs lose theri leaves every fall, then grow leaves again when the temperatures start to rise in the spring. 

    Climate: The type of weather a place has over a long period of time.

    After reading and learning about the Temperate Deciduous Forest please draw this habitat  4 times to match the seasons Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Be sure to  draw  how the climate can affects the plants and animals living in the habitat.  Write one fact you learned about each season of the Deciduous Forest to match your picture.
