• What kinds of things should I donate?

The first place to look is the Food-O-Meter:  it will give you a good sense of what kinds of food and beverages we need for the event.

We need lots of pop and water.  We have found that kids prefer name-brand pop:  Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew.  We can use a little bit of diet pop, but for the most part, kids prefer the regular stuff.

As for hamburgers and hot dogs:  both of these items can be bought in bulk.  It's best if the hamburger patties are frozen.

We need lots of snacks.  Kids like both the junky and the healthy stuff.  Fruit and granola bars are equally as successful as candy, chips, and snack cakes.

We need quite a few side dishes for the cookout.  Most popular in the past have been potato salad, pasta salad, and fruit salad.  Desserts are also welcome.

If you don't want to donate food, we greatly appreciate monetary donations.  We need to buy about 40 pizzes for the dance in the evening.  We also need supplies for the grill, as well as paper products.

  • What if I am donating something perishable?

If you are going to donate something that needs to be refrigerated, we ask that you bring it the morning of the event, Monday, June 5.  We will be behind the school on 29th Street, armed with an impressive collection of coolers.  We'll put your donation right into one of those coolers then load them onto the truck that we take out to camp.

And that does not apply just to perishables.  If you're donating something but don't want to send it in ahead of time--like those of you who are donating multiple cases of pop or water--feel free to bring it in that morning.  We'll help you unload from your vehicle and put it right onto our truck.  Just be sure to let us know ahead of time what and how much of something you're planning to donate;  that allows us to keep track of what we have.
