Model UN Takes First at Mercyhurst University Conference

Congratulations to the Collegiate Academy Model UN Team, which placed 1st overall at the Mercyhurst University Model UN Conference on April 30. Gilmour Academy from Gates Mills, Ohio, was second, and Mercyhurst Prep finished third.
The competition included 50 students from six schools and consisted of a European Union committee and a Human Rights Council. Both committees examined the refugee crisis stemming from the Syrian Civil War.
Collegiate students earned top honors with a Superior Award in both committees, including Keay Crandall for her representation of Poland in the European Union, and Ammar Krso and Michael Liu for reflecting the United Kingdom’s point of view on the Human Rights Council.
Four delegations received an Excellence Award. Altay Baskan was recognized in the European Union, and Austin Guo, Randall Sutter, and teammates Emily Twichel and Abby Merlino in the Human Rights Council.
This competition concludes the season for the team, which also included first overall at the Gannon University competition last November and second place at the Lake Erie International Conference at Youngstown State earlier in April. Well done to all involved!
