There have been some changes made to the attendance policy adopted by the Board of Education that took effect this school year.

1.) FAMILY TRIPS - Special permission is required for students to take family trips during the school year. At least two (2) weeks prior to the trip, the parent/legal guardian must submit a written request to the Superintendent of the District. The duration of the trip may not exceed five (5) days. Family trips not preapproved by the Superintendent will result in the student's absence being recorded as unexcused.

2.) WEATHER EMERGENCY - The Superintendent will make a public announcement that parents may use their discretion whether to send their child to school because of severe weather conditions. Parents may then make the determination whether to send their child to school. If a student misses school on an official "parent discretion day" the parent must send in written excuse regarding the weather-related absence with their child upon their child's return to school. Failure to send a written excuse in these circumstances will result in the absence being recorded as unexcused.

3.) EXCUSED ABSENCES - Within three (3) days from when a student returns to school after an absence, the student must present a written excuse from a parent, guardian, or physician to the school office. In no event may a building principal accept excuses later than ten (10) calendar days from the date of the student's return from the absence.
