• Jazz Band I
    #8702
    1 Credit
    Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This 18-20 piece ensemble is open to intermediate level saxophone, trumpet and trombone players, and rhythm section musicians who can read music. The jazz rhythm section consists of a drummer, a pianist, a bass player, and a guitar player. Since jazz bands have a specific and limited instrumentation, this group is highly selective and is by audition only. Jazz Band I performs in two concerts throughout the year and may be called upon for other occasions. Students learn about contemporary styles of jazz music, jazz standards, and original compositions through performance and listening. Students also learn the skill of improvisation and experience a sense of cooperation and teamwork as they rehearse in both small sectionals and as a larger ensemble.
Prerequisites: Experience playing a musical instrument and the ability to read music. A placement audition is required.
