• Latin
With few readers and fewer speakers, students who choose to become Latinists join an exclusive club that spans the globe. Starting with the roots of grammar and semantics in Latin I, students will be reading authentic Latin texts like Vergil’s Aeneid and Ovid’s Metamorphoses by the time they graduate. While the study of Latin is rewarding in and of itself, the skills developed through study translate to nearly every other discipline: parsing Latin phraseology improves logical reasoning skills, deciphering grammatical constructs improves understanding of rhetoric, and reading ancient texts in their native tongue fosters a deeper appreciation of history.
