Congratulations to the Collegiate Academy United States Academic Decathlon team for taking first place at the regional competition at Moniteau High School on February 13 and 14. The team has advanced to the state competition in Hershey, PA, on March 13 and 14. At stake: a chance to compete at the national competition in Garden Grove, CA, in April.
The team of nine comprises Sydnie Ashley, Sophia Gnacinski, Penelope King, Kaylee Lindstrom, Netesh Magar, Thomas Mayo, Ava West, Isaaq Wilson, and Serena Xu.
Team members won many individual medals on their way to first place:
Thomas Mayo: gold in essay, silver in speech, gold in interview, bronze in math, and bronze in economics
Ava West: bronze in essay, bronze in interview, bronze in music, silver in art, silver in literature, silver in science, gold in economics, gold in social science, and silver overall
Isaaq Wilson: silver in essay, gold in music, gold in art, silver in math, gold in science, silver in econ, silver in social science, and gold overall
Netesh Magar: bronze in science
Sydnie Ashley: bronze in speech, silver in interview, silver in literature, and silver in social science
Sophia Gnacinski: gold in essay, gold in music, gold in art, gold in literature, and bronze in social science
Serena Xu: silver in essay, gold in speech, silver in music, silver in literature, bronze in math, gold in economics, silver in social science, and silver overall
Penelope King: gold in essay, silver in speech, bronze in music, bronze in art, gold in literature, silver in math, gold in science, bronze in economics, gold overall, and the highest overall score in the competition!
Two students also competed at large and will move on to states with the team of nine: Kalea Williams and Manaal Hussain, who won gold in essay, silver in music, bronze in art, bronze in literature, bronze in so science, gold in economics, gold in science, and bronze in interview.
