As part of Wilson's Black History Month celebrations, our art classes are exploring race and identity through art inspired by Kara Walker’s provocative silhouette cut-outs. The students create immersive tableaux by tracing the contours of figures and animals, then adhering them to stark white backgrounds to tell powerful stories. By constructing these narrative pieces, they pay homage to Black history while mastering visual storytelling through the use of positive and negative space.

WOW! ✨ Today we were honored to host a visit from Ms. Allyn Jones, an Erie native who now performs on Broadway in New York City! Allyn spoke to our Presidents about the importance of elevating diverse voices, especially during Black History Month, and how it’s okay to be nervous while chasing your dreams. She even answered the request for an encore performance for 8th grade!
Fun fact, Allyn is the sister of Wilson’s own Ms. Rathburn! 🥰 Thank you so much for visiting us today!

Today is Crossing Guard Appreciation Day! We may be biased, but we know Wilson has some of the best crossing guards. 💙 If you see Mr. Dallas, Ms. Karen, Mr. Jasen, Ms. Kelly, or Ms. Theresa - please thank them for keeping our kids safe! They are out each day, rain or shine, with a smile.
Special thanks to our PYD ambassadors who helped us celebrate our special guests this morning!
