Ms. Howard's class had a day filled with celebrating their year in kindergarten! Students earned awards and wore matching shirts making the celebration extra special! They then had lunch outside with Miss Hitchcock's class to help celebrate!

Mrs. Nagy's class enjoyed their first day of boat construction to wrap up their final CKLA unit! Students will complete their boats on Tuesday and see whose boat can hold the most marbles and still float!

Check out this fun opportunity from the Presque Isle Audubon Society! They will be hosting their first ever Junior Festival of the Birds of Presque Isle. This free festival will take place at the Cookhouse Pavilion on June 6. Registration is required and can be found online at their website.

As we honor mental health awareness month, we will be sharing mental health tips for parents to help encourage positive behaviors and skills in their children.
Limit Screen Time–encourage outside activities, interaction with other kids, involvement in groups/social activities, and having time to talk/engage without electronics. Limiting screen time 60 minutes before bed can also lead to improved sleep.
Make Healthy Choices–good nutrition can help students feel better about themselves, increase focus and attention, and lead to improved health overall.

Reminder today, May 29th 2:30-5:30pm is our annual Carnival! We hope to see everyone there!

Today we got to celebrate our amazing student leaders at the third annual Community Schools Leadership Retreat! ✨ Our leaders joined students from other community schools across the county for a day of team building activities, motivational speakers, and lots of fun! Ours students even got a special shout out from Ms. Kyra Taylor of Erie's Black Wallstreet in her opening remarks. We are so proud of the positive growth our students have made this year, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for them as they level up!

Some of our Edison students participated in a show with Dafmark! The show was titled "America the Beautiful: Eternal Harbor of Hope."

As we honor mental health awareness month, we're sharing tips for parents to help their children strengthen their mental health and wellbeing.
Practice self-compassion and model for others–think “What would I tell a friend/child in this situation” to change self-defeating thought patterns (instead of “how could I make such a dumb mistake?” change your thought to “it’s okay to make mistakes, I’ll do better next time”).
Exercise–physical movement is good for physical AND mental health!
Get enough sleep–children between age 6-12 need 9-12 hours of sleep per night, and it’s important to keep this consistent during the school week and on weekends. Improved sleep hygiene can help the brain focus, help with emotion regulation, and reduce irritability, impulsivity, and anger.

On Thursday, our staff had some fun by "dressing for the wrong occasion." As we wrap up Mental Health Awareness we want to highlight the important part that joy and laughter play in supporting mental health. Whether you're a child or an adult, having fun and being silly are opportunities to bring joy and laughter to life, and support positive well-being.

Last week, Edison wrapped up the school year with our final career speaker visit! Our students are so thankful for the opportunity to learn about different careers and hear from inspiring guests throughout the year. Thank you to all of our career speakers for taking the time to share your experiences, encourage our students, and help inspire their futures! ❤️

As we honor mental health awareness month, we're sharing tips for parents to help their children strengthen their mental health and wellbeing.
Encourage focusing on the moment–what do we know right now in this moment instead of what may happen or is assumed.
Establish a routine–predictable and consistent routines help kids (and adults!)–bed times, expectations at home (chores, manners, homework, etc.) help kids stay regulated by knowing what comes next and what the rules are.
Practice using “I feel statements” such as “I feel angry because” or “I feel sad when” instead of “you make me mad” or “you make me angry.” Focusing on and expressing feelings helps de-escalate situations and fosters healthy communication without accusing others.

Last week, Edison wrapped up the school year with our final guest from Hooked on Books. Our students are so thankful for the opportunity to receive books each month and have special guests come read to us throughout the year. Thank you, Hooked on Books, for helping inspire a love of reading in our students! 📚❤️

As we honor mental health awareness month, we will be sharing mental health tips for parents to help encourage positive behaviors and skills in their children.
Share your own feelings and healthy expression of emotions - talking openly about feelings helps set an example.
Ask open ended questions to start conversation: "What was the best part of your day?" "What was a challenging part of your day?" instead of "How was your day?"
Encourage and model self-care - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is important!

To celebrate mental health month at Edison this year we’ve been doing small things to boost staff mental health. Today staff could wear something representing what they are proud of, what inspires them, or what makes them happy!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
At Edison, we believe mental health matters!
During the month of May, you will see Edison adults wearing green on Fridays to show our support for those facing mental health challenges. By raising awareness about mental health, we strive to do our part to start the conversation and end the stigma around seeking mental health help.
If you or someone you know is interested in or in need of mental health support, help is available 24/7 in an emergency by calling/texting 988 or contacting Crisis Services at 814-456-2014.
If you have any concerns about your specific student, please reach out to our Mental Health Specialist, Ms. Devon, at 814-874-6484.

Edison is so grateful to partner with Wabtec as part of our community connection! Thank you for supporting our kiddos and helping build meaningful connections. The kids had an amazing year learning and growing together. Last Friday was our final session of Connect A Classroom for the 2025–2026 school year, and what a great day it was in our new space! Thank you, Wabtec, for your continued support.
