Just before break, Ms. Lourens' friends went on an egg hunt in Mrs. Saez's room. The 4th grade students hid eggs around the room and then helped their buddies find and count eggs.
We love the smiles!!

This week, our Life Skills classrooms visited The Cork 1794 for a fun field trip! Each student used a machine to smash a portion of hamburger into a patty and mixed their own fruit lemonade from a choice of blueberry, raspberry, blackberry or strawberry.
And of course our work was reward with a very delicious lunch of either chicken fingers or hamburgers!
Thanks so much for having us!!

Spring break and schools will be closed from March 30th to April 6th.
Congratulations to this month's winners of Principal 100! Students are nominated all month long for being a great example of what it means to be a McKinley Mariner! Each student's name is placed on a bingo board and when their row or column fills up they get to spend time doing a special activity with our Principal, Mrs. Bull!
This month's winners played an egg swap dice game and got to go home with the special prizes inside their egg. In true Mariner fashion, some of our students even decided to share a portion of their prizes with each other.
Way to go, kiddos!!

Later this week, students will test their windbreak designs against strong winds (a hair dryer 😉)!
We love to see the hands on, teamwork happening at McKinley!

Did you know that we have 17 different languages in our school?!🙌 We had such a fun time celebrating various cultures at our Multicultural Music Festival and Art Gallery last week!
Students from our Creator's Club and ANCHOR after school programs created beautiful artwork all year long with our friends from Anansi to have on display at the art gallery. We also had wonderful music from Mambo, henna demonstrations, the Old Songs New Opportunities program taught us new songs, and we can't forget the yummy treats from Casa Café!
Events like these are made possible through our community school funding provided by United Way of Erie County and the volunteers from Women United and our very own McKinley staff!
Thanks to all who came to celebrate with us!

Remember playing Oregon Trail?!🐃🤖
Our Second Graders traveled down The Oregon Trail for their Westward Expansion unit. Each story had a different representation and part of the trail and students either wrote facts about what happened during that part of the journey, or drew a picture!
Good news-- We all made it down the trail, even after some harsh weather and limited food supply-- if you know, you know! 😉

Our love for reading continues with Reading with Royals!
Pre-K completed their our month long marathon of We LOVE Reading by inviting the Early Childhood Education class from Erie High to join them as guest readers.
We had so many Royals participating, that our Pre-K extended the invitation to our Kindergarten and First grade classrooms as well.
Check out all the smiles and learning that took place here at McKinley!

McKinley's Dudes & Donuts event was a PACKED house last night!! 🍩
From dads, to papas, to uncles, to brothers, and to cousins, we had a great time celebrating the incredible men in our school community! Students and their special dude made photo frames complete with a printed family picture from the event, enjoyed donuts together (obviously 😉), and overall just enjoyed the quality time together with all of our Mariners!
Special thanks to McKinley teachers and staff for volunteering their time to help! Events like these are made possible through our community school funding from United Way of Erie County!
To all the dudes, thank you for not only coming to the event, but for continuing to support our school & community!
