What an inspiring morning at Wilson! To kickoff Black History Month and “The Ice House” projects for 7th Grade, Wilson hosted a panel of local leaders fielding questions from our own students. The panel included:
Mr. Matt Harris - 20 year veteran of the PA State Police, Eastside Renaissance Vice-President, Founder of ”Character Be About It,” & 100 Black Men Chapter of Erie Vice-President.
Mr. Corey Cook - COO, Erie Downtown Development Corporation.
Ms. Walaa Ahmad - IT Systems Analyst for Erie Insurance.
Ms. Angela McNair - Founder of Jumpstart Daycare, Coordinator for Erie’s Juneteenth Celebration, and former School Board Director for Erie’s Public Schools.
Beyond the amazing work these panelists are doing in our community, we would like to thank them as standing as role models to our students who trace their roots right back to the City of Erie! Programs like this would not be possible without the efforts of Erie’s Public Schools- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

The efforts and contributions of many African American educators and community leaders have helped Erie's Public Schools to become the district it is today. Thank you to all of the amazing individuals who help us continue #buildingexcellencetogether! We are especially grateful for our superintendent, Dr. Natalyn Gibbs, who is dedicated to bringing the community together and supporting our students and their families.

This month our students are learning about the important African American figures throughout history. You can stay up to date on what they are doing each week to celebrate Black History Month by visiting our website: https://www.eriesd.org/blackhistory.
