• The Writing Center
The Writing Center is located in room 220. It is a quiet, comfortable place where students may get individualized help on any writing assignment. Students may obtain one-on-one help from a writing assistant, or they may simply use the computers (if available) to focus on and develop their work. To have an assistant work with a student, the student must make an appointment. Hours and appointment times are below. You can also visit the Writing Center's website.
What is the purpose of the Writing Center?
The Writing Center helps to reinforce the writing process. Brainstorming, revising, drafting, editing, and gaining responses from another reader are all critical elements in developing a polished piece of writing. When students visit the Writing Center before submitting their projects, they have an opportunity to slow down and take their work through any and all of these processes. With the help of others, students are able to identify and improve upon their own writing weaknesses.
The Writing Center supports what is taught in the classroom. The Writing Center augments writing instruction in the classroom.
The Writing Center creates consistency and unity. The Writing Center reinforces grammar, mechanics, and Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting expectations given by the high school teachers. Our goal is to have students understand that these elements of writing remain consistent across the grades and between the disciplines. The Writing Center is an ideal location for students to be tutored in these areas
The Writing Center does not write a paper for the student. Students must bring a hard copy of their rough draft or a draft with teacher comments.
