Important information about ordering/paying for AP Exams

Posted by Joshua Bischof on 10/6/2023

Parents and Students,

This is the time of year to begin thinking about taking AP exams in May.  The AP exams are rigorous, cumulative exams, for which much studying is required.  Please take time to discuss with your student and their AP teacher the seriousness and the preparation required for these exams.  Students who score high enough on AP exams have the potential to earn college credit based upon the policies of the colleges or universities they choose to attend.

The AP exam ordering process at Collegiate Academy has begun and will end on November 10, 2023.  Exams are ordered based on the student’s responses when they register in their AP Classroom for each subject. At that time, students are to indicate if they will be taking the exam in May. Please discuss with your student their decision to take the exam. Anyone deciding to take the exam after November 10, 2023 will incur a late registration/cancellation fee of $40. Payment for exam orders will be taken by Ms. King from now until March 31.  The cost for each exam is $98 ($146 for Capstone exams).  Fee waivers will be available for those families with proven financial need as defined by the Federal Poverty Guidelines (see below).  Income verification can include: a copy of your filed income taxes, verification you receive cash or food stamp assistance, or proof you receive Medicaid. Final costs for the exams for students eligible for a fee waiver will be published as soon as we receive information from both the state and federal level regarding additional fee reductions.  Please note that while the exam at full price is $98 each, a 3 credit, non-dual enrollment college course can range from $1700 to $2000 plus fees at local universities.  We encourage you to use the next few weeks to decide which exams will be taken.  Please take this opportunity to discuss questions with AP teachers and counselors.

If you meet any of the bulleted criteria below, your student would qualify for AP fee reductions.  If you have questions concerning the AP exams please contact Ms. King at eking@eriesd.org or 874-6306.

  • The student’s family receives assistance under Part A of Title IV of the Social Security Act.
  • The student is eligible to receive medical assistance under the Medicaid program under Title XIX of the Social Security Act.
