What is PBIS?

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is a researched-based framework for teaching and supporting positive behaviors for ALL students.  This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a positive and safe environment where all students can learn.

How Does it Work?

Students are acknowledged for being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, AND PREPARED.  When they engage in one of the school-wide expectations, they will earn a Cougar Coin (PK-1) or PBIS-Rewards points (2nd-5th).  The coins are used towards classroom-wide rewards while the points allow the students to shop at the PBIS Store when goals are achieved.

Characteristics of SWPBIS

• INTERVENTIONS ARE PLANNED AND POSITIVE RATHER THAN REACTIVE AND PUNITIVE.
• FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR ARE CAREFULLY MANAGED OR ELIMINATED.
• PROSOCIAL BEHAVIORS ARE TAUGHT DIRECTLY, PRACTICED FREQUENTLY, SO THEY BECOME AUTOMATIC.

Behavioral expectations are displayed throughout the school to inform our students about what is expected of them daily.  Our teachers also teach the behavioral expectations to the students each morning and then reward the students throughout the day for following these expectations.  Getting caught doing something PAWS-itive is what we want here at Grover Cleveland.

Our behavioral expectations are built on the premise that ALL students will strive to follow the 3Bs:

BE RESPONSIBLE

BE SAFE

Attendance  

In order to achieve the 3Bs, students need to be in attendance every day.  Attendance matters!  Students can earn coins and points for being here as well.  We also run incentives for our classrooms through BINGOs and through our Cool Cougar program.

Students Being Cool Cougars

Every Friday or the last day of the week, one student from each grade level is nominated as a COOL COUGAR. This student is recognized for following the 3Bs plus Attendance. These students are role models for others to emulate at their grade levels and throughout school. The students will be announced on Friday or the last day of the week. Recognition Breakfast  

At the end of the quarter, all COOL COUGAR students will be invited to a recognition of achievement breakfast along with a parent or guardian.  Details of this event will be announced prior to the end of each quarter.
