• In 1983, Jane Fry gave the following toast to East High School at the Senior Banquet.

Dear classmates, faculty, administration, and friends,
I would like to toast our school - EAST HIGH. When we say EAST HIGH we are talking about more than just a brick building, we are talking about all the teachers, principals, counselors, and classmates who have helped us grow. To honor our school, I chose the song etched in all of our minds as a guide, our school song:

"You may search through the whole wide country ev'ry city ev'ry state,
From the northland to the southland of our union strong and great,"

No matter how much searching we do, another EAST HIGH we will never find. This school is special only to us because we have spent a great deal of time at 1151 Atkins Street.

"You will find no school that's finer
Measure by what test you may"

We have been tested in many ways- from the obvious, tests in classes, to trying to find our way around as freshmen. Our school also has been tested, but no matter what the test, we came through, because of our desire, ability, and pride at EAST HIGH.

"And it's our own school, our dear East High
    We hail with pride today."

We look back with special pride, at the past four years. Some of us had to attend EAST because of the change at Tech, but after one year we fell in love with the school and one by one, we realized its excellence. We all grew into proud students and showed our pride in many ways. Hopefully, we can continue with this special feeling we gained.

"Then to East High our Alma mater
Do we pledge loyal hearts and true,"

At EAST HIGH we learned what loyalty stands for. For those of us who participated in sports, we wore scarlet and gray proudly and competed honestly. In activities, such as Y Teens and Red Cross, we learned how to be caring and considerate to others. The coaches and teachers taught all of this to us.

"May we ever keep thy dear name unspoiled
    And thy colors unsullied, too."

Let us keep in touch and never lose track of our experiences at EAST. May the pride, honesty, and intelligence we gained carry on through our life. May the support and encouragement we received at EAST help us achieve all that we can, and may all the memories remain cherished.

"May the Scarlet and Gray float o'er us
Lead us onward from day to day"

WE all have gained many memories during our four-year stay at EAST HIGH SCHOOL.
    The first confusing day
    Freshman initiation
    The freezing cold football games
    The thunderous, deafening rallies
The concern, encouragement, and guidance from all the teachers
All those fund-raisers that paid off
All our crushes, heartbreaks, and newfound awareness
The adventurous field trips, and finally to the friends who have pulled through with us.

"Then give three cheers for our East High
Rah! Rah! Rah! Three cheers for the Scarlet and Gray."
