Welcome to Harding School

    Important Halloween Information

It’s that time of year again – the spookiest, scariest, creepiest time of year! Harding Elementary School will be celebrating Halloween with our annual parade beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31. All students from Pre-K to Grade 4 are encouraged to participate. Grade 5 has chosen to have a movie and treats instead of participating in the parade. Students must bring their costumes in a bag. They are not permitted to come to school dressed in costume or arrive with faces already painted. Students will change into costumes after their lunches and parade out the front doors on Lincoln Ave. beginning at 2:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the students will parade through the auditorium. Parents are asked to be seated in the auditorium and not block the aisles.

Students in Pre-K to Grade 4 will come out the front doors on Lincoln Ave. and parade north on Lincoln and west on 8th St. around the block. Students will re-enter the building at the front doors and go to their homerooms for their Halloween party.

Students are invited to bring treats to share with their classmates. Parents should check with their child’s homeroom teacher for the number of treats needed. Healthy treats are encouraged.

    A few important reminders:

    · Costumes are not to be worn to school. However, it is a FREE dress down day for all students.

    · Any costumes involving fake weapons or sharp objects are prohibited. Also, masks that prevent proper visibility are also not permitted.

    · Costumes must be age appropriate and not revealing in any way.

    · Parade observers are encouraged to line the walkways, but allow room for the children to parade.

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

I would like to share some very important safety information with you and ask for your help. Dismissal time is a very hectic time of the day. With an additional 150 students at Harding this year, as well as multiple buses and vans, both Mr. Yonkers and I have some safety concerns. Please read the following points and contact us if you have any additional concerns. As always, your child’s safety is our top priority.

    · Please utilize the parking lot as much as possible to pick up and drop off your children.

    · As you know, Lincoln Ave. is very congested and there is NO PARKING on the east side of the street. Stopping your car backs up traffic and further contributes to traffic flow issues.

    · Please walk your children to the corner where the crossing guard is stationed so that you all may safely cross. Crossing Lincoln Ave. in between cars is unsafe and contradictory to what we teach children about safely crossing the street. A few extra minutes spent walking to the corner may prevent an unnecessary accident.

    · If your child rides a bus or van, please alert the office by phone by 3:15 or send in a note if transportation arrangements concerning your child have changed.

    · If at all possible, please avoid coming to the office after 3:25 to pick up a child that was supposed to ride a bus or van and is now going home with you. Students are taken to the auditorium beginning at 3:20 and are called to their bus or van from there. It is very difficult to communicate with the office once students are in the auditorium. Please make these changes in transportation arrangements prior to 3:15.

Mr. Yonkers and I will continue to work diligently to insure your child’s safety. It is our number one priority and we know that it is yours too. Thank you for your continued support of Harding School.

Mr. Jeffrey A. Yonkers, Assistant Principal
