A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships that help address health, wellness and the social needs of its students, families and surrounding neighborhood. The community schools model is a strategy that organizes school and community resources around student success.
Harding's community school lead partner is the YMCA of Greater Erie and our corporate partner is Eriez Magnetics. The lead partner employs the community school director, which is made possible through Corporate Partner support.
The Lead Partner is a community-based organization that joins the school to manage and lead the work of developing and sustaining the community school model. This organization may provide some of the resources identified as high need at the school and works with the Community School Director to secure additional resources through other organizations.
The Corporate Partner commits to financial support and engages with the school through various opportunities, such as volunteering.
One of the greatest features of our community school is being able to meet the basic needs of students and families immediately through our on-site resource room. In our community room, we have school supplies, winter items, clothing, health and hygiene supplies and more to ensure that our students have what they need to come to school ready to learn. We never want any of these things to stand in the way of our students being at school each day. If you need help, just ask! Everyone needs help sometimes and that is what we are here for. We are a family at Harding - so don't be afraid to reach out.
