• Nutrition Project

Students have collected information and interviewed cafeteria staff about nutrition guidelines and operational practices at Collegiate's cafeteria. They visited the cafeteria at Jefferson Elementary School, which operates an Energy Star dishwasher.  The goals are to investigate the possibility of obtaining an Energy Star dishwasher that would discontinue the use of Styrofoam plates and begin a composting system to produce soil for the school garden.

Recently, 3 composting bins have been purchased and filled with fresh food scraps from food preparation in the school cafeteria.  The soil produced will be used for the school garden in the fall of 2014.  Future plans include initiating a composting program in the school cafeteria to include the waste generated by students and faculty.
