• Mr. States was born and raised in Erie, PA. He is the second of four brothers. His family lived in Wesleyville, and greatly encouraged his love for history from a young age. Ensuring that family vacations included at least one stop to one historic site or another. Mr. States attended the Iroquois School District from Kindergarten through graduation, and still maintains several strong friendships from school. During High school, He was invloved in a wide array of extracurricular activities. Most notably, playing trumpet in the Iroquois Marching Band from 7-12th grades. He served as the Trumpet section leader his Junior and Senior years. Mr. States reluctantly joined the swim team his Sophomore year, and would continue to swim throughout his school years. His race was the 500 Freestyle. Mr. States also played on the Iroquois Golf Team, JETS, and Model UN. During his senior year, Mr. States attended Gannon University through a Duel Enrollment program. Following graduation, he pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State Behrend.

    His time at PSU showed him that engineering was not the job that he wanted, and he eventually found his way to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Here, he earned his BA in History. During his time at Edinboro, Mr. States completed an internship through the Erie Maritime Museum, where he was introduced to the joy of sharing history with kids. Following this internship, his plans changed from pursuing an advanced history degree, towards education. After graduating from Edinboro, he earned his MS in Secondary Education Pedagogy and Practice. Mr.States returned to his alma mater, Iroquois, for his first student teaching placement. Here, he taught 7th grade World Civilizations. Following completion of his first placement, he was sent to North East High School, where he taught 10th grade World Cultures and 11th Grade Western Civilization. Immediately upon graduation from Mercyhurst University, Mr. States was hired by the Erie School District.

    Currently he teaches 9th Grade World History and Current Events
