Welcome Message: Welcome to Erie High!! Let's have a great year!

      UPDATE: 4/13/20

      IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

Students! We will begin transitioning to using Google Classroom for classwork beginning April 20th. You must REGISTER for my courses using your district emails. Please visit http://classroom.google.com to complete this task!

Your district email is your 6-digit lunch code followed by '@eriesd.org'. An example email would be '123456@eriesd.org'.

The password to this account would be your typical school password that you use to log into a district computer. Once you create your Google Classroom account, you will register for my course using a class code. You do this by clicking the '+' sign in the top right corner of the webpage and selecting "join class". Class codes are listed below. The course you will register for is based on the period or block you had my class when we were still attending school!

      Here are the codes:

      A-DAYS:

      BLOCK 1: tz77qu4

      BLOCK 3: 6g67fxz

      BLOCK 4: mvnziwr

      B-DAYS:

      BLOCK 1: ojmaaqw

      BLOCK 3: ml2fopk

      BLOCK 4: jj247pm

Please take the time to watch the short videos under “Web Resources” on how to log into Google Classroom & submit assignments.  This platform will be where all the work will be put in for you to do while we are out of the building.  If you have any questions, please email me at:  kferrare@eriesd.org

Hang in there.  We will be okay!  :)

      UPDATE: 3/23/20

Dear Erie High American History students,

We are experiencing a significant, unprecedented event in America right now—the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. It has impacted peoples’ lives and changed the way society operates. It has been the most discussed topic in current events recently. All of these factors (impact, change, importance) make the Coronavirus pandemic a significant event. These are the same factors we use in history class when studying a historical event or figure. We look at the event or person and see how they measure up against the “Significance” criteria: How did they impact peoples’ lives? How did they bring about change? Is the event/person considered important? Are they still talked about?

As a way to continue to hone your historical thinking skills, I would like you to check out the website https://www.ushistory.org/. The website has a number of readings on various historical topics, running the gamut from the Age of Exploration to the Information Age. This site will be listed under “Web Resources". For the time period of 3/23 to 4/3, pick one of the following topics and measure it against the “Significance” criteria mentioned above (impact, change, importance): "Bloody Antietam", "Gettysburg", "The Emancipation Proclamation, "The Election of 1864". Once you get to the website, click on the red "U.S. History" tab located on the left hand side of the page. Then, scroll down to sections 33 & 34-you will find the articles there.

I will attach a “Significance” criteria worksheet under “Class Resources”. You are not required to print this out—you can just take a picture of your answers on notebook paper and e-mail them to me (kferrare@eriesd.org). Although these assignments are not mandatory at this time, it would be in your best interest to keep your vocabulary & critical thinking/writing skills sharp.

In the meantime, take it easy, wash your hands frequently, and practice healthy habits! If you have questions/concerns about the assignments or anything school-related, please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks!

      Mr. Kevin Ferrare
