Grade 1 Social Studies curriculum and content is driven by the Pennsylvania State Academic Standards in Economics, Geography, History, Civics and Government. The primary level of the standards describes what students in Pre-K through Grade 3 should know and be able to do. At the First Grade level students will continue upon a journey starting internally and spiraling out to their neighborhoods, communities, city, state and nation. Examples of what students should know and be able to do are describe places in geographic reference in physical features. Identify physical characteristics in the community and region, identify groups of people who contribute to a community and identify American landmarks and their significance.
