Grade 3 Social Studies curriculum and content is driven by the Pennsylvania State Academic Standards in Economics, Geography, History, Civics and Government. The primary level of the standards describes what students in Pre-K through Grade 3 should know and be able to do. At the Third Grade level students will continue upon a journey starting internally and spiraling out to their neighborhoods, communities, city, state and nation. Examples of what students should know and be able to do are identify the difference between past, present and future using timelines and/or other graphic representations, identify and describe historical documents, artifacts, and places critical to United States history, identify the physical characteristics of places and regions and identify the effect of people on the physical systems within a community.
