Eva Tucker Jr. is remembered as a man who held "a strong conviction for education, and felt Erie students deserved a quality education."

That conviction was apparent in myriad ways, not least through 32 years of service on the Erie School Board. Tucker served as president of the body for six terms, and vice president for one term. During that time, he successfully pushed for the creation of minimum grade requirements for students who play sports, an initiative known as the “C rule.

Tucker's leadership also "included persistent efforts to enrich the curriculum and diversify the work force" of the district, his obituary noted.

Tucker's tenure of more than three decades is the longest of any African American member of the Erie School Board.
