Decades after his uncle, East High School alum Larry Meredith, became the first African American to serve on Erie City Council, Mo Toop followed suit. He was sworn into office in January 2022.

In addition to serving as an assistant principal at Erie High School, Troop is an author and musician (he founded and leads The Breeze Band).

"I have tirelessly worked with Erie's youth for over two decades," he told the Erie Times-News. "One of my chief responsibilities as a school leader is to help young people find their pathway to success in life. Connecting them to a pathway allows them to become responsible and productive members of society."
