• Modern Dance I
    #9612
    .5 Credits
    Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This course is designed for the beginning dancer with no previous dance experience who is looking for an introductory course of dance. This course consists of learning and performing basic levels of the Graham and Horton modern dance techniques. Class is structured like a professional contemporary dance class with a warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, center combinations, improvisation, and choreography. Students learn and develop movement skills and weight shifts characteristic of the Graham and Horton technique, such as fall recovery, contract release, swings, “flat back,” and coccyx balance. We also view dances on video to further expose students to Modern Dance from a global perspective. Students may also participate in a school performance.

Prerequisites: Concurrent enrollment in, or completion of, Wellness/Fitness I
